Who funds the West Bank rabbi who endorsed killing gentile babies? We do.

by Yaniv Reich on November 16, 2009

The West Bank rabbi who published the comprehensive religious guide to killing non-Jews, Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira, turns out to receive funding for his “religious study” from some surprises places… like the government of Israel and an assortment of US/UK “charities”.

According to Lior Davne, cited in Haaretz:

In 2006-2007, the Ministry of Education department of Torah institutions transferred over a million shekels to the Od Yosef Hai yeshiva in Yitzhar [the baby-killing rabbi’s yeshiva and settlement].

The Ministry of Social Affairs has [also] allocated over 150,000 shekels to the yeshiva since 2007.

Lest you think they are just ideologues in theory, here is a story from 2008 where a student of this yeshiva, and Rabbi Shapira himself, are implicated in firing a crude rocket at a Palestinian village. Note this act would be perfectly consistent with the rabbi’s twisted guide for killing non-Jews:

A student from the Od Yosef Hai Yeshiva built a crude rocket and fired it from a nearby hill at a Palestinian village in the West Bank, security officials said Friday. No one was wounded.

Among those suspected of involvement in the incident was the yeshiva’s head, Rabbi Itzik Shapira, Ma’ariv newspaper reported.

Members of the ‘rocket launching cell’ reportedly tried to cover up their actions, and several minutes after they fired the rocket they told residents of the Yitzhar settlement, where the seminary is situated, that an experiment was being carried out and not to be alarmed when they heard an explosion.
[…]
Police spokesman Danny Poleg said Friday that detectives searched Yitzhar and questioned residents but made no arrests.

A number of American and British tax-exempt organizations also raise money and donate to this yeshiva. These will be the subject of a future post.
